During the 1800's, with steam boat service from New York, New Paltz was a popular retreat from the city's summer heat. Developers cashed in on the demand for summer cottages, however, the supply outstripped demand and to our good fortune, one developer went broke after selling only a few cottage lots. Landlocked, with no access road, the unsold land was forgotten for over hundred years.
In 1992, we discovered this pristine oasis one block from Main Street and built what is now New Paltz's most desirable address. Live surrounded by trees and gardens, a walk to restaurants, shopping, or the bus to New York (1 1/2 hours). New Paltz is home to NYS University. The town has a lively ambiance with a tie dye 60's flavor.
The apartments are large and elegant. They feature designer kitchens and baths, comfort controlled central air conditioning and clean liquid propane heat. Sliding glass doors open on to your private deck. Enjoy the convenience of an in-apartment laundry and abundance of closet space. Plush wall to wall carpet completes the setting.
One hundred years ago, contented cows grazed alfalfa amidst giant hickories that grew where Woodland now stands. The alfalfa gave way to forest. The ancient hickories?...some still stand. As for the contented cows...well., they have been replaced by contented Woodland residents.
Nature abounds in Woodland's forty acre retreat. Real old style pine board sided structures grace the lush forest. Inside our picturesque structures, it's strictly twenty first century. Large, spacious apartments are centrally air-conditioned and warmed by individually controlled high efficiency heating systems. All units have private decks, tiled kitchen and bath, numerous closets, and most have in apartment laundry hook-up.
The community enjoys the highly ranked Roundout school system, Ulster County Community College and convenient shopping in town. The city of Kingston, the county seat, is a ten minute ride. There you will find virtually every national name store, two hospitals, a facinating historic district, Hudson river boating and numerous restaraunts.
As many long term tenants will tell you, Woodland is not simply a place to live...it's a place to call home.
